SIMPTECH'S SEED BED LEVELLER
This farm implement is a valuable machine to any small farmer that rotates crops in a ploughing operation to allow this machine to level the soil to perfection just before sowing seeds.
My Father built a wooden type of Soil Leveler in the early 60 when we started to farm the heavy soils of the Hunter River flats on a farm we rented with very rough and uneven cultivation, caused by bad ploughing practice over many years. It being a rented farm for too long as all past tenants wanted to produce a crop in the cheapest & quickest way possible.
With this wooden soil leveler just before sowing a section with lucerne seed, with the soil worked to perfection for perfect germination I would drag the leveler over the ground in lands in two opposite directions of 90 deg to each other to level in two different ways as moving the soil around the top of the ground.
This operation would smooth the paddock out just like a tennis court with all surface dirt moved from all the high spots into the low spots in an effortless way using small amount of horsepower.
This machine works a lot better with a matching set of diamond harrows the same width hook on the back as to help move dirt around, plus break up the dirt on the shaved high spots to be removed as the leveler crosses in the opposite direction to level the soil some more.
This simple machine has a number of helpful advantages
1. A perfect level soil for lucerne crop help surface water drainage to enable less dead patches to allow the crop to last longer.
2. Tractor operating Hay machinery can move faster in a safer way allowing quicker haymaking.
3. Less damage to machinery being smoother especially the rake and pickup tines.
4. Picking up hay with a grab or forklift is a smoother ride in being better to operate in nil spillage.
5. Less back problems with the tractor seat with less movement as driving around.
6. A level surface lucerne block that irrigated with spray lines is a lot better to stand the sprays up straight and they stay there where you place them on the ground as being all level.
